Two Individuals Arrested Over Phone Concealed in Commons to Allegedly Broadcast Inappropriate Sounds At Prime Minister's Questions

Police have taken into custody a duo of individuals in connection with a cellular device found hidden within the parliamentary chamber, which was allegedly designed to emit sex noises during the prime minister’s questions.

Finding and Probe

This phone was located close to the government benches during a standard security check of the chamber. It is believed it was planned to interrupt the regular debate between political leaders in September.

An official representative stated, “Around mid-morning on that specific date, a device was found while conducting a standard inspection of the House of Commons chamber.”

Detentions and Charges

Investigations led officers to believe that the phone was purposely positioned in a spot with the aim of causing disruption to business in the house.

• An individual in his 30s was arrested on Friday 5 September on suspicion of trying to intentionally cause a disturbance.
• Another man in his sixties was arrested on Tuesday 30 September on allegations of the same offence.
• Both have been released on bail to appear at a future time.

Security Measures and Consequences

Increased security measures were introduced in the House of Commons after the device was found. Audio tours and escorted visits were called off, and there was limited entry to the main hall.

The House of Lords followed suit to limit entry to the Lords Chamber “as a precautionary measure.”

The spokesperson noted, “Enquiries remain ongoing, and we continue to keep the speaker and clerk informed with our investigation.”

Seriousness of the Incident

The event is being treated seriously as it represents a major breach of legislative safety. This device was found while numerous guards based in Westminster were on strike over wages and terms.

Consequently, the public were banned from the legislative grounds. The union explained that the work stoppage went ahead due to reduction of annual leave entitlements, stagnant pay, and an wage disparity based on race.
