The Blue Jays Claim Fall Classic Showdown With Los Angeles Dodgers

George Springer celebrating

George Springer contributed to the Astros securing the World Series in 2017.

The Toronto Blue Jays advanced to their initial Fall Classic since the 1993 season by beating the Seattle Mariners in the final game seven of the American League Championship Series.

Behind by two runs, the star outfielder hit a three-run home run in the seventh frame, leading the Toronto squad in Major League Baseball to a 4-3 series triumph in the best-of-seven series. They will now face the Los Angeles Dodgers, holders of the defending champions, in the anticipated Fall Classic.

"I'm thrilled for our team, Toronto, the nation," commented Springer, a key player of the Astros team that won the 2017 championship. "It's truly an amazing experience."

George Springer has now slugged twenty-three October home runs, placing him third on the list behind Ramirez (29) and Jose Altuve (twenty-seven).

"There's probably not another person in the world that I'd prefer in that situation besides him with his post-season brilliance," noted manager John Schneider.

The Mariners, who had led the early in the series, remain the sole team yet to make an appearance in a championship series.

Manager Dan Wilson commented "without a doubt that it hurts" after his team's loss at their home ballpark, but commended their work throughout the year.

"They're an exceptional squad. It's a shame that we had to come out on the losing end of this one," he continued.

The Blue Jays secured the World Series on both previous visits in 1992 and '93, and will host the Dodgers in the first game on the upcoming Friday.
