No McKenna Celtic Discussions as Bellamy Commits to Wales

Each have been linked with the coaching position at the Scottish champions following Brendan Rodgers' resignation on Monday.

McKenna's Position on The Scottish Club

McKenna described the Glasgow giants as "a really big football club" but stressed he is "in the middle" of a "long-term project" with the Championship side.

The 39-year-old assumed control of Portman Road in recent years and guided the team to the English top flight with back-to-back promotions, but they won just four games last season as they were demoted back to the second division and they currently sit 12th in the Championship.

"I have not had any of those discussions," the London-born former Northern Ireland youth international said when asked about being on Celtic's shortlist.

"This isn't a matter I have considered seriously, or where any part of my concentration is this week.

"I have a special position here at a special club. And we're at a really important phase of the season. Anything outside of that hasn't reached my radar."

Background and Agreement Details

Reports indicate that McKenna would be open to speaking to the Scottish side given his childhood support.

"Growing up, we all have our preferences," he said when questioned about those. "It's unlikely everyone has to publicly and declare what they were, but naturally it's a massive sports organization."

The coach agreed to a new multi-year deal in last year and was asked about his reported £5m release clause.

"In every manager's contract, there are things," he replied. "I'm unaware what my specific terms are and, were I informed, I wouldn't tell you regardless!

"I approach this role like I will remain Town's coach forever. I know that's not invariably going to be the case, but I will consistently do my best as while I am here."

The Welsh Coach's Situation

The former striker played for the Hoops on temporary transfer from the Magpies in the mid-2000s, but the ex- Welsh forward is inclined to complete the current global tournament qualification, a stance that would practically eliminate the mid-forties from assuming the Celtic job.

The Welsh squad are presently in third place in their World Cup group behind group toppers Belgium and runners-up North Macedonia.

Wins over the minnows and North Macedonia in next month would secure their position in the final qualifying round, but they are all but guaranteed of making those, due to a successful European competition campaign, even if they not end up their group second place.

Given his current stance, the Wales manager, whose agreement expires after the European Championship, would not be available until following the play-offs at the minimum.
