At least 16 people perished and more than 40 sustained injuries when attackers fired on a Hanukkah gathering at Bondi Beach, an incident local authorities are describing as a act of terrorism.
As of the newest reports, authorities have announced the death toll remains at 16, including one of the suspected gunmen. Moreover, 42 wounded individuals were transported to hospital.
Those who died are still awaiting formally identified, but investigators think their ages are between 10 and 87 years of age.

Originally from London rabbi Eli Schlanger, 41, was initially identified.
Described as a father of five children, he was the associate rabbi at Chabad of Bondi. Relatives and friends remembered him as “vivacious, energetic, full of life and a very warm outgoing person who was dedicated to assisting others”.
“How is it possible that a happy rabbi who went to a beach to spread happiness and light, to make the world a better place, meet his end in this way?” a family member asked.
Schlanger and his wife celebrated the arrival of their youngest child in October.
Alexander Kleytman was also among those killed, according to his wife.
She described the events leading up to the shooting, explaining they had been standing together when the gunfire started. “He pushed his body up because he wanted to stay near me,” she recalled.
The husband and wife were both survivors of the Holocaust, having faced immense hardship in their childhood. They had later moved to Australia from Ukraine.
French authorities have confirmed that French man Dan Elkayam is a casualty.
In a statement, the Foreign Minister expressed that France stood with his family, the Jewish community, and the Australian people.
“This low act is a fresh and tragic example of a revolting outpouring of antisemitic hatred that we must put a stop to,” the message continued.
A young girl, aged 10 who was taken to the Sydney Children’s Hospital is among those who had died, according to police reports.
An Israeli citizen was a fatality during the attack, according to multiple sources citing the Israeli government.
Of the 42 people taken to hospital, many are still receiving treatment, with several in serious condition. The injured include two officers who responded to the attack.
A casualty is a bystander who rushed to the scene to confront one of the gunmen. Hailed as a local hero, he received bullet wounds but is expected to recover in hospital.
Among the injured is Arsen Ostrovsky, a human rights lawyer. Reports indicate he was hurt and is receiving treatment in hospital.
In a message, he recounted the scene as an “horrific scene,” but also praised the response of those who rushed to help. He said he believed it was a “stroke of luck” he survived.
Evan Zlatkis, a media director, was another casualty in the shooting. He described he listened to “a large number” of shots.
“I thought it was rubber bullets, but it’s gone into my own skin and into my leg,” he stated. “I sustained a gunshot wound. They bandaged me up. I’m ok.”
