The North London club has confirmed that its contentious sponsorship partnership with Visit Rwanda will terminate in June of next year.
The partnership, said to be worth around ÂŁ10m per year, was first established and has since come under fire.
This criticism stems from the country's reported backing for the M23 rebel group in continuing hostilities in the eastern part of the adjacent DRC.
Months ago, Arsenal was criticized for issuing a severe rebuff to the government of the DRC by declining to meet with Congolese diplomat Thérèse Wagner to talk about the deal.
Visit Rwanda operates as a branch of the Rwanda Development Board, which is a government department.
Many speculate that Arsenal entered into and continued this partnership chiefly to increase their following across the continent.
However, the partnership has now terminated after both parties “mutually agreed” to end their collaboration.
“Jointly, Arsenal and the Rwanda Development Board have surpassed the primary aims of the partnership – supporting environmental protection and sustainable tourism, motivating countless fans to discover the country, and establishing a durable base for travel industry expansion,” stated an Gunners' release.
The release further noted that the partnership has also supported Rwanda's goal of becoming an international sporting hub in Africa and welcome more worldwide tournaments while delivering grassroots football initiatives that have assisted numerous youth athletes and coaches enhance their abilities and inspire greater participation in sports throughout the nation.
Richard Garlick, Arsenal's CEO, described the partnership as a “major expedition” and stated it had been “propelling” the club's ambitions.
However, this perspective was not shared by a portion of the Gunners' supporters, with the campaign group Arsenal Peace Advocates demonstrating outside the club's home ground during the first semi-final encounter in Europe's premier competition against the French club in the end of April.
Demonstrators showed a sign stating “End the Rwanda Deal” and distributed armbands to conceal the partnership emblem on kits.
During that period, PSG continued their sponsorship agreement with Visit Rwanda until 2028.
At the same time, Atlético Madrid signed a fresh deal for the identical duration that has caused the emblem appearing on the Spanish club's men's and women's shirts.
